Etsy Sellers Unite for Etsy Day — Join in!

The Etsy Forums have united and declared Friday, April 24th, 2009, Etsy Day! Hurrah! We here at Alamo City Etsy love you for working together to create a really exciting opportunity for us all. Etsy will be reporting the guerilla marketing on Friday and we challenge YOU, buyer, seller or fan, to shout "Etsy!" from the rooftops. Get the Etsy name out there in the brightest, sparkly-est, boldest way you can think of! Make sure to record your efforts with video or photos (if you upload photos to flickr, making sure to tag them "Etsy Day 2009"). Etsy will be highlighting the funniest, weirdest, most attention grabbing efforts on Etsy's Blog and on our social networks (like our Facebook page and Twitter), and we'll make sure to link back to you.

To learn more about Etsy Day, check out the latest forum post by Shugirl:

Here are some ideas from the Etsy Admin:

If you get people to sign up for Etsy on Friday make sure they mention your Etsy username in the Referrer Username box at sign up! If we see a user who really rocks this, we'll automatically include you in our Etsy Day follow up post. So if you print out flyers, get on the news, or get Ashton Kutcher to tweet about Etsy, make sure you get your username in there, too!

Tweet your endeavors via Twitter and make sure to add the hash tag #EtsyDay. (And send it to @aplusk. Let's get Ashton Kutcher's attention on Etsy Day. Ha! Mr. Most Twitter Followers.)

Support a new seller on Etsy Day! Buy an item from someone with no sales (you can find them on Pounce Undiscovered), and wish them a "Happy Etsy Day" in the Message to Seller field when you check out.

Print out schugirl's Etsy sign to stick in your car window or download and print out the design Anda made for Etsy Day!

Get an Etsy tattoo!

Dress your family in all orange. When you get weird looks, whisper "Etsy".

One final clarification..."Etsy" is pronounced like "Betsy" with no B.

Ok, we're getting silly now. Let's hear your own Etsy Day guerilla marketing ideas! Post them in the comments below. And don't forget to post photos of your wildest Etsy Day promotions to Flickr and tag them "Etsy Day 2009"!

The Fine Print: This promotion is being sponsored by independent Etsy shop owners, not Etsy.com. We're just excited about it

1st Semi-Annual Wake and Bake Sale

We're so excited! We're having our very first Semi-Annual Wake and Bake Sale on Saturday April 25 out in front of El Sol Studios! The King William Festival (probably my favorite Fiesta event) will be kicking it into high gear and we will be there supplying hand-baked goodness.

I've heard rumors of Mini Cheesecakes, Cookies, Pumpkin Breads, Cupcakes, and something about Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies.. So, if you love sweet treats and supporting handmade, come on out to El Sol Studios at 936 South Alamo and say hello!

Fiesta Arts Fair at the Southwest School of Art and Craft

Saturday, April 18, 2009 – 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Sunday, April 19, 2009 – 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Adult admission: $8 | 2-day pass: $12
Children 5-12: $4 | Under 5: free with adult

Celebrating 36 years of creativity, the Fiesta Arts Fair at the Southwest School of Art & Craft is an official “kick-off event” for the renowned Fiesta San Antonio – 10 days of merriment, pageantry, parties and parades, bringing thousands of visitors to the Alamo City every April.

Last year's Fiesta Arts Fair was voted the"Best Art & Craft Fair" of the year in San Antonio, and one of the top three most "family friendly Fiesta events" by the readers of the city's weekly paper.

In February 2008, San Antonio's Fiesta Arts Fair was named one of America's Top Ten Art Fairs and Festivals (coming in at #7, to be exact) by the national magazine, American Style.

The 2-day Fiesta Arts Fair is exceptionally welcoming for every generation of your family, with 120 top artists from around the U.S, plenty of live music, a Children’s Art Garden and (as with all true Fiesta events), good food. There's something for everyone in a relaxed, shady setting.

All proceeds benefit the classes and community programs of The Southwest School of Art & Craft.

*Alamo City Etsy is not involved with this event, but we want to post and share about the amazing events in our art community and support great organizations like The Southwest School of Art & Craft.

Seller Tip #3: Why you should have a domain name

This is perhaps one of the most important favors that a seller can do themselves in the future. Say you start your new shop to sell your funky mittens and you call it Purple Zebra Mittens. If you promote your shop for a few years and later decide to stop making the mittens and start making elegant upscale scarves you will either have to start from scratch or sell your new scarves in your inappropriately named mitten shop.

By simply paying a few dollars a year you can have a unique domain name (such as purplezebramittens.com) that points to your store. It really is a win-win situation. The domain name will be easier to remember for your customers, you look much more professional, and if you decide to change directions in the future your hard work and clientele will not go down the drain.

Another sale for Calendar Girl!

So far, so good! There was another Calendar Girl item sold this week at True Identity. That news is good, but I hope to see that same kind of action in my etsy shop soon. :)

The item sold is a red with black lace purse.

Visit True Identity's myspace page for more info on the Calendar Girl items available.

Seller Tip #2: Get an independent website

Having an independent site isn’t crucial, but it makes you look much more established and professional. You can set up a gallery of your work, link your store, profiles and blog to it, and you can change the look to suit your taste and brand.

There are many sites that you can use to build a free website and you can have a domain name added for a very low fee. There are sites that charge a monthly fee to build your site through them, but the advantage is that you can customize the look and feel to a greater degree than you can with the templates that most free builders provide.

Time is running out!

Hello ACE Team Blog Readers!

I'm giving away some free custom art this month. I'll do a digital rendering of one high resolution JPEG of your choice (just in time for Mother's Day!) and mount it on canvas. I will take the original and turn it into a monochrome masterpiece. The finished product will look very similar to a painting, with texture applied via gel medium.

In order to be entered into the random drawing for this piece (valued at $60) go ahead and lave a comment on my blog. Enter by April 24th. The winner will be announced on April 25th.

Time is running out!

Calendar Girl made an offline sale!

Since, things have been slow for me on Etsy, I decided to offer some of my items to be sold on consignment at a local alternative retailer and I made my first sale!

The item that was sold is a black lace and satin ribbon choker with an offset flower.

So that means I will be making another one to restock the sold one. :)

If you want to check out the Calendar Girl items that are available, go visit True Identity's myspace page for more info!

ACEO

Hi everyone! I feel a little funny posting here but what the heck. I just listed this ACEO on my Etsy Shop (Charlotte's Collection) and would like to share it with you. Here is a quick explanation of what an ACEO is:

ACEO stands for Artist Cards, Editions and Originals. They are collectible miniature works of art that can be created in a variety of media, originals and prints. They must measure 3.5 x 2.5 inches. It is a way to collect a variety of types of art. You can put them in photo albums, frame them or leave as is.
Another name is ATC...artist trading card, but if you call it an ATC you can not sell it. An ATC was meant to be traded only.
I decided an ACEO was a good way to market some of my art from my journals. I could not sell the journal pages so I made prints in the size of the ACEO. Each print is then mounted on card stock.
If anyone makes ATC's and would like to trade with me. Let me know.

April Seller Spotlight: BellaLilli Designs

Autumn is a mom to 2 girls and maker of beautiful jewelry. We asked her a few burning questions.

What sparked your love of jewelry making? My love of color and my obsessive need to tinker. My first jewelry project was a wire bracelet made out of a dismantled telephone in 3rd grade (it was our only working phone. I was grounded for a week!)

What is your favorite piece in your shop? Actually I have too many to list. My favorites have been sold. But I am posting a Etruscan today that is by far my fav. (Pictured Right)
What kind of space do you have to create? I have small apt. So I use my antique card table (the surface is much abused! ::GASP::)

What is your favorite material to work with? Metal. Its so mutable with a torch and tools. The possibilities are endless.

If there is a seller you would like to nominate for our next spotlight, email alamocityetsy@gmail.com

Can't wait to meet everybody!

I'm Mandy, aka 2Sleepyheads.  I'm a stay-at-home mom living in Helotes.  You can check out my shop at 2sleepyheads.etsy.com, or follow me on Twitter: www.twitter.com/2sleepyheads.

I'm sorry I missed the meeting yesterday, but I have exciting news (at least for our little family!) We went to the Easter Egg Hunt at Rainbow Play Systems in Boerne yesterday, and we won a trampoline!  It's a 12-foot springless one with the safety net and everything.  My sleepyheads are going to love it when it's all set up!

If anybody's interested, Helotes is having Cornyval next month.  They have a craft booth area.  I don't have enough stuff for a whole booth, but if you're interested in joining me, let me know!

Head on over to my newest treasury! You can find the link here. It is a gorgeous collection put together by EarthGrrrlCrafts.

Come out for our meeting today!

We're having our first local meeting today, April 4th, at 2:00pm at El Sol Studios.

This will be a Meet & Greet, just a casual mingling of creative minds. Feel free to bring business cards and network with other members of our new team. We will introduce ourselves, talk about what we want from our team, what kinds of events we would like to participate in and our experiences as sellers. There will be light refreshments ==. So, in other words, get your butt down to El Sol Studios and have a good time!
